Genetic and environmental factors play a role in the development of obesity, and diet is one of the main environmental factors that contribute to obesity and its related metabolic diseases. Human studies have shown that increased fat intake is associated with body weight gain which can lead to obesity and other related metabolic diseases. As such, rodent animal?models are useful tools to determine the mechanistic aspects of obesity and to develop therapeutic approaches as they will readily gain weight when fed?high-fat diets. Diet-Induced Obesity (DIO)? 誘導(dǎo)肥胖模型飼料

Research Diets, Inc. is well known as the gold standard in high-fat diets for diet-induced obesity research worldwide. Below are the most widely published diets for these studies. All high-fat diets are not the same. We have made hundreds of modifications to these formulas to meet individual researcher needs. Please consult with one of our?scientists?before choosing a high-fat diet for your next study.

The D12492 Story

On April 22, 1999 the first box of pelleted D12492 was shipped. In 1999 Research Diets shipped 150 kg of D12492, and today ships over 10,000 kg of D12492 monthly. Today, there are more DIO rodent models made using our diets than any other diets in the world.?More than 2,000,000 kilos of D12492 has shipped to more than 3,000 researchers, working at more than 800 separate institutions in more than 60 countries .

D12492 began as a custom diet and because of its continued use, is now a gold standard for (DIO) Diet-Induced Obesity research. As its popularity grew, D12492 became an “In-Stock Diet”. There are many different customized diets that have been based on D12492. For more, please?contact?our science group.

What It Means

Since the first box shipped, these diets have become the standard for research in the field of obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Top worldwide breeders Charles River, Taconic and JAX, feed D12492 to produce DIO mice for the research community. A recent Google Scholar search revealed over 3,600 publications in which these diets were utilized. By using these standards, investigators are privy to a wide range of reference data from an expanding research publication base.

D12492 is only 1 of the more than 20,000 diets we’ve formulated and produced and there’s more every day.

A Word of Caution

Don’t be misled by diet manufacturers who claim to offer the same OpenSource diet formulas as Research Diets, Inc. Though it is true that all our formulas are open, there may be differences in the sources of ingredients or the vitamin and mineral mixes used to produce the diet. There is only one sure way to repeat research based on the “Original” OpenSource Diet formula—go to the source of that formula. There is only one place to get OpenSource Diets and that’s at Research Diets, Inc.

Product Literature

Important factors to consider when designing a diet-induced obesity study using animal models are:

Matched Formulas Low- fat Purified Ingredient Diet*
Calories from Fat 32% to 60%
Types of Fat lard, beef tallow, coconut oil, milk fat, fish oils
Commonly Used Strains C57BL/6J, AKR/J mice, Sprague-
Dawley, Wistar, F344x Brown Norway rats

*For those requiring a matched control diet, be sure to use a purified ingredient matched diet rather than a grain-based diet.

常用菌株 C57BL/6J,AKR/J小鼠,Sprague-
Dawley,Wistar,F(xiàn)344x布朗挪威大鼠

*對于那些需要匹配的對照飲食的人,一定要使用純成分匹配的飲食,而不是以谷物為基礎(chǔ)的飲食。
